Sunday version 2 - results2022\Altyre 2022 Sun Ver2.pdf

A fantastic new venue for the Enduro riders to tackle. The HEC organisers put in a mammoth effort to source and prepare a superb course to challenge riders at the weekend.

Well done to all the riders who finished the event  and try again next year for those who didn't quite make it.

The weather was scorching hot and the riders had a short break between each lap to cool off and recharge. Then it was off again into the stunning scenery of the Altyre estate.

With riders from all over Scotland and quite a few who made the long trip up from Yorkshire there was tight racing in all classes. The course developed as the day progressed with some deep ruts and a bomb hole. Some of these were cut out for the Sunday

Andrew Bisset lead the Experts on the Saturday and again on the Sunday with Ben Thomson  in 2nd both days. Stuart Mack was 3rd on the Saturday and Kagen McKenzie 3rd on the Sunday.

Andrew Currie was 1st Expert B on Sat with Jack Kitching in 2nd. The positions were reversed for the Sunday.

In the over 40's Gavin Johnston won both days with a surprised Alan Davidson in 2nd ahead of James Harvey on the Sat - with positions reversed on the Sunday.

Clubman Callum Davidson continues to impress with a dominant ride on both days for the win.Alastair Millar was 2nd on Sat and 3rd on Sun with Callum Hill 3rd on Sat and Stevie Durrand taking over 2nd spot on the Sunday

Richard Copsey made the long trip north worthwhile with a win in the Over 50's on both days  with Neil Dawson 2nd both days and Gary Reid third on the Sat

In The Clubman B class Liam Matheson improves each race and had a win on both days with David Wilkes 2nd both days. David Simm took 3rd on the Sat and Charlie Milburn 3rd on the Sun

Sportsman Vets rider Robert Gardiner took the Win on the Sunday after course penalties on the Sat dropped him off the podium. Mike Glass was 1st on sat with Neil G Alexander 2ns and Phil Hewitt 3rd. On the Sunday Bill Bruce put in a charge for 2nd with Phil Hewitt 3rd again.

In the Sportsman class Robbie Davidson is on a charge with 1st both Days. Cai Hewitt close behind on Saturday for 2nd with Gavin Donald in 3rd. ON Sunday Andrew Murdoch upped his game for 2nd with Cai Hewitt just behind in 3rd.

A great weekends racing . Many thanks to the Club and the landowner for a great event - the effort was well appreciated.

Expert class won by Andrew Bisset with Kagen McKenzie in 2nd. A disappointing turnout for an excellent event with new ground added. One of the fastest events of the year .

The riders had a great day out in the sunshine on a well prepared MX track then a blast across the moors to the small forest section and a high speed run back to the start with a small burn crossing. There was a bog - which caught out a few of the unwary including an Expert !

Thanks to Jim Mair and the Elgin Bus Boys for putting on a great event.  The timing was Live again and meant you could follow progress as the day went on. Thanks to the SACU for running it.

In the Clubman class Callum Davidson continues to impress and nearly caught Kagen at the end. The only other rider to manage 16 laps as well as the Experts.

Chris Gallagher and Max Hamilton in the Clubman B class managed 15 laps each with only james Harvey in the Over 40 putting in 15 laps.

At the end of the day a lot of happy but very tired riders.

The course will be run again in October - an event not to be missed - it really is a case of USE it or LOSE it.

More photos tomorrow.

Highland Enduro Club Lossiemouth Championship Enduro 16th/17th April 2022

The Highland Club ran a very popular Enduro over the Easter weekend with over 100 riders making the long journey to Lossiemouth.  The course was as testing as always with tight times on the Saturday for all classes. Times on the Sunday were eased for all except the Experts.

Fraser flying

Saturday's event was won by Expert Fraser Flockhart ahead of Andrew Bisset with Ben Thomson finishing in third. Ricky Mair made a welcome return to the forest finishing in 4th. Local expert Kagen McKenzie was 5th with Jack Kitching in 5th.

On Sunday the top three remained the same with Fraser leading them home again. Kagen McKenzie finished in 4th with Greg Gallacher just behind in 5th

Due to storm Arwen there were a large number of trees down which meant a lot of rerouting of the course and a new test for 2022.

The test started with a fast blast through the sand then into the tight forest for the second half of the timed section . As always there was no resting on the course with nearly 5 hours of riding. The top riders managed to stay clean on time despite the tight times.

There was also an incentive for Clubman B riders to push hard in the test as there was bottle of single Malt up for the rider with the fastest single test time on  the Sunday. Presented by Allan Macdonald and won by David MacGillvray it certainly added to the riders motivation.

Allan Macdonald presents David MacGillvray with his trophy

Thanks to FLS for the use of the land and to the Highland Club for putting on another great event.

This year the club are awarding the John Little Memorial Trophy to the fastest Expert B Class rider over the 2 days of competition.

Last year in it's first year of competition it was won by Expert Fraser Flockhart.

John Little was a great supporter of Enduro and ISDE / ISDT competition and was a main factor in the British Enduro Champ coming back to Scotland. John's motivational speeches to struggling riders kept many going when they would have given up - one of the great inspirational people in the Sport. This fantastic trophy is a tribute to him.

Advice for securing bikes

Chain them to the floor or a wall in a garage or secure shed.

Remove wheel spindles so the bike can't be pushed away.

If in an outside shed use a baby monitor so you can hear if anyone is in the shed.

Alarm your bike store.

Keep helmets separate so they cant use them to ride away.

Avoid having bike specific stickers on your vehicle if it is parked at your house.

When selling a bike - before you show the buyer the bike photograph them and their vehicle. Take a photo of their driving licence.

Remove a wheel spindle and disconnect the spark plug before they arrive.

Do not give any documents until cheque or cash is paid into bank. If the buyer objects - say goodbye.

If possible ask your local police station if you could sell the bike at their premises - crooks will not want to be at a Police Station.

At events - Safety advice. Check your vehicles for trackers before you leave. Watch out for any vehicles following you.

At events photograph any suspicious people or vehicle taking an interest in bikes.

NOTE ON HELMETS - IMPORTANT. Check before you turn up at an event

Helmets will only pass scrutineering for racing if they carry an ACU gold sticker attached. (Silver stickers are no longer valid All helmets sold as suitable for "ACU competition" will have the stamp affixed by the dealer.

If your helmet does not have an ACU sticker attached contact the dealer to ask for the sticker. Helmets can be assessed by the ACU or SACU by posting in the helmet and paying a £15 certification fee - which includes return postage.

Helmet or body mounted cameras are prohibited. Cameras may be mounted on the motorcycle.

If you want more riding - the North East of England Championship rounds are well worth doing . Enduro and XC. See http://www.enduro-neec.org.uk/ for more info and a calendar.

If you find the sport is interesting and would like to ride or assist then contact a club as we are keen to attract new members to the sport.  There is an over 40's class and a Ladies award, so everyone  can get out and ride.

Enduros in Scotland are organised from March to October with events from the Borders to Inverness . All classes of rider are catered for with Expert, Clubman, Sportsman and over 40's classes.

To compete you  need to be a member of a club and either hold an SACU or ACU  licence - or can get a one day licence at the event. You need to send in an entry form prior to the event, entries are available on this site or from the host club.

The aim of Enduro Competition is to complete the course via several checkpoints in a set time. You may not check in early or late without penalty. Generally the top riders go "clean" and the event is then decided on the result of special test times. There will be one or two tests per lap of a Moto-X or cross-country type. For the slower riders there is up to a one hour allowance over the set time for the course to achieve a finish.

Enduros are exactly what they say and even to finish is an achievement. So go on - try an event and get out on the hills. There is no other sport like it.
