SACU 2000 ENDURO CHAMPIONSHIP
Round 6 Avon Valley MC Beattock Enduro

A lot of hard work by Dougie Meek and his team was rewarded with solid rain for three days prior to the event.  Little Clyde is one of the big events in the Scottish calendar and usually proves a had but rewarding ride. This year the rain caused the course to cut up badly and a lot of riders found the conditions too slidey and rutted to finish. Only 13 out of the 73 starters finished. Well done to the few riders who managed all the laps.
All the experts lost time on the first lap but came clean on the second lap after some course changes. Stewart Livingston went over the handlebars  on the first lap and damaged his arm but continued to do three checks. Derek Little was putting in some fast checks but lost time on the 6th check which would cost him the Premier award. Murray Thompson was flying (or sliding ) and followed his recent excellent results in recent events to win the expert class.
Dougal Walker had machine problems in the over 40 class and was forced to retire after posting some fast test times. Jim Whiteman as usual was trading times with Dougal and seemed to get faster as the event progressed - and took the Premier award in the over 40's. Andrew McConnell was the only other senior rider to finish - nobody told him it was a hard event.
It was a similar situation in the Clubman and Sportsman classes with most riders retiring.
Hopefully the course can be used next year as the new rides cut throught the trees were interesting and would be great in drier weather.
