Welcome to Off Road Motorcycle Sport in Scotland (Enduros)

Welcome to Scottish Enduros 2007.  This site was set up in 1999 as an introduction to the sport. It now contains information on events, results  who to contact and profiles of some of the top Scottish Riders.
The big event each year is the ISDE (in Chile this year) and there will be several training and fund raising days over the season. All events will be found in the Calendar along with major British and World rounds.
New to the site ? - check the site map first for what's here

Please note that there is no right of access to Scottish forests for trail riding and that unauthorised use may endanger our sport. Ensure you have permission to ride before you go. For a good summary of rights in Scotland see John Rushworths 1999 article stored on this site ( this was pre Land Reform Act so is only a guide ) - click here.

Each club will nominate 2 riders from Expert, Clubman, Over 40 and Sportsman ( best 6 results to count). The club with the lowest points total will win. So make sure you put your name forward to your club and ensure each club has a full team. Clubs to decide on their teams.

Rhayader BEC Enduro. Great ride by Scots again.  Results Report by Campbell - click here . Excellent as usual.

Euan McConnell 4th overall ( click here for Jonty's full report on his E3 win) and wins the E3 Champ, Derek Little a superb 4th Expert, Neil Chatham a tough 3rd in Clubman and Graeme Naismith - over 40 winner. Well done on a magnificent weekend !

And a big thank you from Graeme Naismith -

" Could I say a massive thanks to Stephen, Carol and the rest of the crew at Ride-On Motorcycles. Last weekend I blew the engine on my YZ125 to bits and with a 2 day BEC event the following weekend you can probably imagine I started to panic. Three or four phone calls later things had gotten much worse!! The minimum turn round time to repair a damaged cylinder was 2 weeks!!! I phoned Stephen at Ride-On, told him the situation and he kindly agreed to lend me anything I wanted from a bike he had in his showroom, absolutely superb!! I picked up the bike, swapped the parts over and managed to leave on time to get to the Rhayader where my wee bike ran like a sweetie all weekend and I think I have done ok over the two days. I actually received another couple of calls offering me assistance, please give my thanks to David Fergus and also Richard Hay for taking the time. Grahame Ferguson from Mickey Oates Motorcycles was also a great help - many thanks for getting me there.

Results for ELRAT Griffin Enduro. Click here - final results with updated Sportsman results - apologies for the confusion. Click here for report and amazing pics. A tough forest enduro - congratulations to all the riders who started and well done to all those who managed a finish. An event to be talked about - where the going was as important as the test.

A couple of pairs of goggles were left - describe them and we'll drop them off at Selkirk.

Next event is Selkirk on the 22nd /23rd Sept . Lets hope it stays dry this time. The inter Club Event has been postponed to Bon Accord - last event of the season - and a big effort for your club there.

Remember this bit ......

griffin0701.jpg (340555 bytes)

Event winner Murray Thomson

Dawn to Dusk - the Scots raid across the border again. With no Richard Hay to lead the Ironman Pro class - it was Carl McIlroy who lead the way home. Last years winner Steve Ireland having to drop out. But Scots won most of the other major classes.

Click here for some photos and the report

Ricky Mair and Jason Thomas put in a great fight to win the 2 man Pro team event - beating off Euan McConnel ( never again !) and Carl Tiley. In the Clubman 2 man team Drew and James Harvey ( Mickey Oates Racing ) put in a great ride for the win.

Frazer Norrie gets tough at D2D

d2d lads.jpg (226633 bytes)

James Anthony and Colin Macdonald "dust off" another lap

In the Clubman Ironman David Salkeld pushed hard for 2nd place ( another Scottish Enduro regular). Colin Macdonald finished in 16th after running as high as 7th with James Anthony in 8th - before a major crash and a bashed leg put James down to 29th. Tamsin Jones won the ladies class with 13 laps - beating most of the boys out there - with an awesome ride. Supported from the Scots Pit - and cheery all day.

Frazer 3.jpg (316927 bytes)And in the Junior event on Saturday - Frazer Norrie improved on last years 2nd place to take the win. ( Photo courtesy of David Marchant and www.ajayfotography.co.uk - check their site for official pics)

Full list of Scots when I get the results.

A very hot - dusty and in place very tricky event - congratulations to all Scots who supported the event and to the 500 + riders who took part. ( See Bob Mullins report on www.enduronews.com.)

Stolen Bikes Theft of Andrew and Fraser Flockharts treasured bikes from North Berwick in the early hours of Sunday the 12th of August.
The bikes were a
2004 250 SX KTM Frame no VBKMXN2344M374304. The KTM has 2007 radiator shrouds and decals fitted with white backgrounds and the number 29 on them. When stolen the bike did not have the exhaust fitted. It also has a side stand fitted not standard on an SX. Other features are Black Honda bend handlebars with wrap round handgaurds and an alloy sump guard.
fraser.jpg (31558 bytes)The
Honda is a CR 85 Big Wheel Frame no JH2HE07A16K100292. This has a MX World tuned engine the barrel is engraved with MXW 07, a VHM Cylinder Head was also fitted, a dep exhaust, a HGS tailpipe, chrome framegaurds and No 615 on the panels
The Honda in particular was cherished by my son Fraser as this was his first season competing at championship level where he had just climbed to 6th in the Scottish Championship and was lying 2nd in the Scottish Youth championship. With the season drawing to a close he now does not have a bike to compete on and finish the season.
A reward has been set leading to the successful recovery of the bikes. PC Blacklock is the contact on 01620 893585, crime reference 386. Or Andrew Flockhart 07802195597

There are always thieves about - so check for any suspicious vans following you home - and keep your bikes out of sight.  Any theft is unacceptable - but these are two very popular riders and hopefully we can help them get their bikes back.

Double E3 victory for McConnell at Crychan

EMcrychan.jpg (288453 bytes) Electraction TM UK rider Euan McConnell continued his winning ways in the Enduro 3 class of the ’07 British Enduro Championship by finishing as the highest placed E3 class rider on both days at the third round of the BEC series, the WTRA organised Crychan Enduro. Scottish Riders at Crychan - another excellent report from Campbell Chatham. With Graeme Naismith taking the over 40 win over both days. A tough class to win !! Well done.

Fancy racing in Ireland - Rick McVicker is keen to get some riders over to sample the local Guiness and also ride a 2 day enduro. Ballyhooley 2 day is on the 25/26 Aug - all I know at present is that there are " three 45 mile laps of brilliant going minimum per day" over the Nagel mountains near Fermoy, Cork.   Their website is http://www.torcireland.com/index.htm  . John Agnew says " The going has everything but bogs, and no stoppers, however due to the length of the lap it is very challenging. The start is at a sports ground with free camping, showers and toilets plus 3 pubs in the village if you want to try the black stuff."  Sounds good - hope someone can make it !

Tywi Murray.jpg (360189 bytes)Murray Thomson takes a magnificent  Overall Expert Class win at the TWYI BEC Enduro - with very competitive riders - showing why Murray is the current Scottish Champion he took full advantage of a tough course . Full report from Campbell Chatham. In a good day for Scottish riders Euan McConnel also took the E3 win and was 3rd overall. Click here for Campbell's report and photos from Allyn Scotland

If you find the sport is interesting and would like to ride or assist then contact a club as we are keen to attract new members to the sport.  There is an over 40's class and a Ladies award, so everyone  can get out and ride.

Enduros in Scotland are organised from March to October with events from the Borders to Inverness . All classes of rider are catered for with Expert, Clubman, Sportsman and over 40's classes.

To compete you  need to be a member of a club and either hold an SACU or ACU  licence - or can get a one day licence at the event. You need to send in an entry form prior to the event, Regs are available on this site or from the host club. Events are published in  Trials & Motocross News. If you check the Calendar on this site the  dates and venues of events and training days are listed. The Contacts page has the addresses of the organising clubs.

The aim of Enduro Competition is to complete the course via several checkpoints in a set time. You may not check in early or late without penalty. Generally the top riders go "clean" and the event is then decided on the result of special test times. There will be one or two tests per lap of a moto-X or cross-country type. For the slower riders there is up to a one hour allowance over the set time for the course to achieve a finish.

Enduros are exactly what they say and even to finish is an achievement. So go on - try an event and get out on the hills. There is no other sport like it.

Please note that there is no right of access to Scottish forests for trail riding and that unauthorised use may endanger our sport. Ensure you have permission to ride before you go.
