FAST EDDY Rnd 2 Shrewsbury 11th March 2007

Murray Thomson heads Scottish contenders at Fast Eddy - Report by Campbell Chatham

The second round of the Putoline Fast Eddy Cross Country Championship was held at Shrewsbury on Sunday the 11th March. The weather was perfect and Paul Edmondson had a full list of entries. The course consisted of fast open fields with a whoop section and some tight going in two woods to keep it interesting.

During the first couple of laps he had several riders charge past but he was confident they could not keep such a pace going for 21/2 hours. Murray also benefited from a one stop fuel strategy that saw him finish in 7th place overall in the Expert Class.

Drew Harvey finished 17th after struggling to get to grips with the clay soil at the start. Allyn Scotland was relieved to finish a Hare and Hound event as he has had some bad luck recently. Allyn was not happy when he fell off in a muddy pool of water and had to come in for fresh gloves and goggles forcing a second refuel near the end of the event. Allyn came in just behind Drew in 18th place. Paul Chatham had a big off in the first hour and aggravated his collar bone that he broke in October; this de-tuned him for the rest of the day. Paul soldiered on to finish 31st Expert.

Neil Chatham entered the Super Clubman Class for the first time and he started really well. Neil was fifth off the line and took the lead briefly on the second lap. David Livesey passed Neil when he fell off and Neil chased him for the remaining 2 hours. Unfortunately Neil was overtaken by Sean Tranter during his second refuel, dropping him to third. A podium finish is still a good result for Neil during the build up to the start of the enduro season. fasteddy2nc.jpg (77160 bytes)

Stuart Mowbray won the morning Clubman race and James Harvey finished 19th. Dave Donald also took part in both the training on the Saturday and the Clubman race on Sunday. Dave will miss the first round of the Scottish Championship as he will be off shore that weekend.

This event was very well run and everybody enjoyed it, the tack was more technical than it looked and it was a long race for everybody. The Pultoline Fast Eddy Cross Country Championship is a great concept and a very good days riding.
